WHAT HYPNOSIS IS…
Hypnosis is a state of deep relaxation that opens the subconscious to positive suggestions to overcome blocks or self destructive behaviors. It is simply a tool that accesses power from within, to take control over our own behaviour. It powers up our motivation and commitment to reaching your goals. .
… AND IS NOT
Hypnosis will not make you do anything you don’t want to do; Marlowe is quick to point out. It does not “over-ride” the individual’s personality, ethics or awareness, nor does it control the client, or the client’s subconscious, in any way.
Clinical hypnotherapy allows you to be the one in charge.
What is hypnosis? Hypnosis is simply a state of concentration and focused attention in a relaxed body. It is the same state that occurs in every person just before going to sleep.
Is hypnosis safe?
Absolutely! As long as you are working with a professional who is trained in the application of hypnotherapy. Don’t hesitate to ask your therapist about their professional training and experience. Membership in the Canadian Society Counselling Hypnotists https://hypnosis.bc.ca/ is distinct from other “certification” programs in that it ensures that the certified individual is a bona fide health care professional who is licensed in his or her state or province to provide medical, dental, or psychotherapeutic services. If a layperson is trained only in hypnosis, thus, lacking the diagnostic and therapeutic skills as well as the licensure required to safely and responsibly treat medical, psychological, or dental problems with hypnosis. CSCH Certification distinguishes the professional practitioner from the lay hypnotist. I have had years of training and have reached the level of Master Clinical Hypnotherapist, C.Hyp.
Is it possible to put myself into a hypnotic trance? Yes. I teach all my clients ‘Self-Hypnosis’. With practice and especially after being taught the process, most people can enter into a self-hypnotic state. This is particularly useful for those wishing to reinforce positive change.
Will my health insurance cover the cost? Health benefits do not cover sessions just for Hypnosis, nor will they cover Hypnosis being done by pseudo hypnotherapist , for those people who do not have any academic/university degrees), however, because I am Register with the Canadian Counselling and Psychotherapy Association, #8774, and because I use Clinical Hypnotherapy in combination with other forms of treatment, such as Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Disassociation and Reprocessing (EMDR), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), your health benefits may cover your sessions. Check the benefits of your heath plan to determine the coverage for working with a registered professional therapist or counsellor. Many Employment Assisted Programs and Victim Services cover my fees. All my receipts are tax deductible.
How many sessions will I need? This is determined by each person’s circumstances. But, significant positive change is typically brought about in 1-5 sessions.
