One important part of CBT (Cognitive Behaviour Therapy) is helping clients change their unhelpful thinking and behaviour that lead to enduring improvement in their lives. CBT modifies dysfunctional emotions, behaviors, and thoughts. CBT identifies faulty thinking patterns. For example, it is not the event that causes the emotion reactions, but rather what you think about the event that causes your emotional reactions. CBT is a short term therapy that teaches you how to challenge your thinking patterns, or those automatic thoughts by turning your negative thinking into positive thinking, which will in turn change your feelings. Anxiety Canada reported, “Research has shown that CBT is an effective treatment for a wide range of problems (e.g., depression, anxiety, chronic pain, disordered eating, low self-esteem, anger problems, addiction)”
